Opened box, removed 6 or so screws, added 1TB Green drive, replaced cover, plugged in existing cameras and turned on. The software is a bit confusing, and the remote that came with it is a bit clunky, I think the batteries that came with are weak. Installed the remote config/view software software and started configuring the cameras. The motion record is solid, a bit too sensitive, picks up Robins flying around. The alarm is annoying but fun.
The detect motion and record all cameras at once, including 30 seconds before and after are a neat feature. Works well with cheap infrared cameras, and the low power consumption/ heat is a plus. I moved from a PC card based solution which was using 400-500W and produced a lot of heat, and wasnt really too reliable. This new system is running solid for days now, the pc solution I had was cheap, worked but needed to be restarted daily. This system just runs on.
Very easy to add the drive, and very easy to get started recording. The UX is odd, you cant use the mouse like you would expect, you have to scroll using the on screen arrows and click on the enter key rather than double click on the recording to play.
Overall, I think the device is great and I would install one for my mother, and grandmother if they felt the need for one.
